RSPB Takes Over Harbour Management
1996
The RSPB became involved in the management of Pagham Harbour nature reserve in the 1990s, bringing professional conservation expertise and national resources to the site. The RSPB worked alongside Natural England and the local authority to manage the harbour for wildlife, improve visitor facilities and monitor the bird populations. The RSPB visitor centre at Sidlesham, on the western side of the harbour, provides information, educational resources and a base for guided walks and events. The RSPB's involvement raised the profile of Pagham Harbour nationally and ensured that conservation management was informed by scientific research.
