Pagham Harbour Shore
Tidal harbour edge with saltmarsh, mudflats and internationally important birdlife
The eastern and southern margins of Pagham where the land meets the harbour. This is not a residential area in the conventional sense but a landscape of mudflats, saltmarsh, shingle spits and rough grassland that forms the western shore of Pagham Harbour nature reserve. Footpaths run along the harbour edge, offering views across the tidal flats to Selsey and Church Norton on the far side. The area is managed for conservation and is a key habitat for overwintering birds including brent geese, dunlin, redshank and grey plover. Little terns nest on the shingle in summer. Access is on foot from Hook Lane and Harbour Road. The harbour shore is the wildest part of Pagham, a place where the built environment gives way entirely to the natural landscape.
